Updating the Flip UltraHD Firmware

Well, the desktop application installed with no issues, and I was pleased to see a message saying that the camcorder's software was going to be updated. However, after clicking ok, I was presented with an error that said "An error occurred while interacting with your camcorder. Please make sure your camcorder is connected to your computer." Oh boy, here we go...
When I clicked the button to get more information about the errors, I was presented with this:

Error code: 27, 2
An error occurred while interacting with your camcorder. Please make sure your camcorder is connected to your computer.
Error removing file '/Volumes/FLIPVIDEO/System/VIEWER/FlipShare.ico'.
Thread info: Upgrade camcorder software : {cedb89f9-18f5-48af-aa6f-27a7c88aa6d1}
Next error:
Error code: 27, 2

An error occurred while interacting with your camcorder. Please make sure your camcorder is connected to your computer.

Error removing file '/Volumes/FLIPVIDEO/System/VIEWER/mem_size.txt'.
Thread info: Upgrade camcorder software : {cedb89f9-18f5-48af-aa6f-27a7c88aa6d1}

"No problem!" I thought and off to Google I went to search for the answer. As it turned out, there were no answers to this problem, only people reporting the same problem over and over again.

I was not going to be denied, so I took a look at those errors again, the first one saying it could not remove the FlipShare.ico file in the /Volumes/FLIPVIDEO/System/VIEWER path. Well, I just bought this UltraHD unit, so I figured it couldn't hurt to start messing around with it. I tried to manually delete the FlipShare.ico file. OS X told me that it couldn't delete the file as it was locked. Ah ha! Now we're getting somewhere!

I Ctrl-clicked on that file and chose "Get info" and saw that the "Locked" checkbox was indeed checked.

I went about un-checking this box, quit the FlipShare app, and re-launched it. The original error box came up again, but this time the error about the FlipShare.ico file was no longer there. I knew I was on the right track at this point.

I went back and selected all the files in the folder and again chose "Get info" and unchecked the "Locked" checkbox for them all.

I ran the FlipShare software again, and when attempting to update the firmware… got the error box again! But this time, the error was on a file within the "Start FlipShare.app" file, which is in the root of the UltraHD's path when viewed in Finder. Again, figuring I had little to lose, I manually deleted that file from the UltraHD. It deleted no problem.

I ran the FlipShare software again, chose to update the UltraHD's software and… success! The firmware was successfully updated to version C3.14.

Maybe now, I'll take some time to take some videos!

I hope that this will help all the folks out there that are having this problem (Error 27, 2) when updating the firmware of the Flip UltraHD.

UPDATE!

Scott Holdren (from http://raventools.com) was having this same problem, read this post and suggested running this line in a Terminal window to accomplish all the steps in one shot!

find /Volumes/FLIPVIDEO -flags +uchg -print0 | xargs -0 chflags nouchg
